Your complete guide to understanding dose changes for weight loss injections — what to expect, how to manage side effects, and when to seek medical support.
What to Expect When Changing Dose
All weight loss medications are prescribed at a low dose to start with. You’ll then gradually increase your dose when you and your clinician agree you’re ready.
This process is called titration. It gives your body time to adjust and helps reduce side effects.
- Everyone must start low and increase gradually for safety.
- Higher doses often improve results — but you don’t have to reach the highest dose.
- Side effects usually appear or worsen temporarily after increasing.
How to Use Your New Dose
You will still inject once per week, on the same day and time, using the same pen device.
The only exception is Wegovy 7.2mg, which currently requires three 2.4mg injections at once.
When is the Best Time to Change Dose?
The minimum gap between increases is four weeks.
The best time to increase is when you:
- Have time off work or can work from home
- Have no important social events
- Are not travelling
- Have access to supplies and bathroom facilities
